Roatan

Roatan is a lush, tropical island situated off the Caribbean coast of Honduras. The crystal clear Caribbean waters, thriving coral reef, and abundant marine life have been a well-kept secret of dedicated divers for many years. With an international airport and cruise ships making port calls, Roatan is now starting to be discovered by the rest of the world. This idyllic island can be reached via several direct flights from the U.S., Canada, or Central America. Read a bit about this wonderful Caribbean destination.

Activities

Divers and non-divers alike can enjoy all the topside attractions of Roatan, such as beautiful white sand beaches, canopy tours, botanical gardens, horseback riding, sailing, flats fishing and deep sea fishing, iguana farm, and more. Here's a list of activities and attractions.

World's Second Largest Barrier Reef

The barrier reef that surrounds the island offers incredible snorkeling as well as diving. Dolphin swims and dives are available, as well as shark dives. See our list of dive services and 10 favorite dive sites.

People

The friendly, smiling faces of Roatan include a mix of people. Garifunas are black islanders who speak English with a captivating Caribbean lilt. There's a large Spanish-speaking population that has migrated from the mainland over the decades. And you'll meet many folks from a steadily growing population of ex-patriates from the U.S., Canada, and Europe who have opted to make Roatan their home.

Climate

The tropical temperature on Roatan is a balmy 80 degrees on average, with the trade wind breezes cooling everything off when the heat rises, and the warm rain nurturing the island’s prolific plant life. The water stays at a pleasant range of 77 to 84 degrees year-round. More details are in Diving in Roatan or our FAQs.
