PADI Discover Scuba Diving Experience

The PADI Discover Scuba Diving course is the fastest and easiest way to try scuba diving. After just a half-hour of theory followed by some practice breathing underwater in the shallows, you can dive up to two times to a maximum depth of 40 feet. You will be carefully supervised by of one of our knowledgeable instructors during the entire dive. If you fall in love with diving and decide you'd like to become a certified scuba diver, your Discover Scuba dives can count toward an Open Water certification.

PADI Scuba Diver Certification

Do you want a scuba certification so that you can dive more frequently, but minimize the amount of vacation time you spend on your training? Consider the PADI Scuba Diver course, which can be completed in about two days of morning sessions, leaving your afternoons free. During that time you'll attend three academic sessions, have three practice sessions in shallow confined water, and then two dives in open water.

The resulting certification lets you dive as often as you like, although you have a limit of 40 feet and are required to always dive under the supervision of a dive professional. At a later time, if you want the freedom to dive without instructor supervision to a depth of 60 feet, you can take the extra steps to upgrade to an Open Water certification.

PADI Open Water Certification

The complete open water course is done over a period of 3½ to 4 days, depending on your comfort level. Maximum class size is four people, so you’ll get lots of patient and personalized attention to build your skills and confidence. There is some reading to complete on your own time, which you can do ahead of time with e-learning or here in the comfort of a hammock. Book knowledge is reinforced with multi-media presentations and then with practice in a shallow, confined water area.

The confined water skills are usually done in the calm, protected waters inside the reef, just off the palapa. Here, you begin your practice in waist-deep water, then progress to slightly deeper water. The open water certifying dives are done off our dive boat in the beautiful Caribbean Sea. There are four training dives in total, each followed by an after-dive briefing.

PADI Bubblemaker Experience

Children as young as eight years old can have the thrill of trying scuba diving in our pool, staying at a depth of less than five feet of water. It’s the perfect way for younger members of your family to experience the sport you love! Your child should be comfortable in the water but doesn’t need to be a super swimmer. One of the experienced instructors from our dive shop conducts the session, which takes about an hour.

PADI e-learning

PADI E-Learning

Make the most of your vacation time by completing the academic sessions of the open water course online through PADI e-learning. Learning to scuba dive requires both knowledge development (facts, principles, concepts) and motor procedures (skills, techniques, methods). The PADI Open Water Diver Course online provides the knowledge development portion. You develop the remaining skills by diving at our resort with a PADI Instructor.

E-learning can be done at your own pace and schedule. When you arrive at Barefoot Divers, you’ll be ready to jump in the water and do the confined water training and open water dives.

Guest Comments

"One highlight for our party was the dive shop. None of us were divers before, but three of us did the Discover Scuba class and were amazed by the personalized, professional service of the instructors at the dive shop. Most of the time we had a one-on-one ratio of instructor to student, and at one point we even had two instructors to one student. They made us feel so safe and comfortable with the new sport."
